sixtydoses. where od is jobless.

Lol. Nah am not jobless. Just couldn’t think of a better subject. But anyway..

I hate it when I have the feeling of resigning from my job. There’s a job fair this weekend and am going to ‘sell’ myself. Something that am really bad at.

And I mean, really, really, bad.

In the cv form on the job recruiter’s website, there’s a portion where I have to fill in with my skills, if I have any (I have left that portion blank since day 1).

It got me thinking(since forever), how do you define if one is a beginner, or an intermediate, or an advanced user in nix? This is a very subjective question and I kinda hate it.

And you think setting up a wallpaper is easy.

Filed under: Miscellaneous — Tags: — od @ 8:26 pm

It’s just so fucking hard to find a wallpaper when you don’t have a theme in mind. I used to like gothic, dark yet feminine wallpaper back in college days, but now am more into cartoonish, pastelish and cute wallpaper. Sheesh.. guess am getting cheesier by day.

I like manga, but I don’t like it as a wallpaper. I don’t like anything specific, anything that comes with a message, an agenda or propaganda. I like a generic wallpaper.

But now am bored. Am so bored with my wallpaper. I want to change it but I just don’t have any theme in mind right now. I just wish that I stumble on a gorgeous picture that I could download and set it as wallpaper.

On a different note, I was at the pharmacy today and I kinda realized that the security guard was eyeing me like am a damn shoplifter. Okay prolly it’s just my feelings but this isn’t the first time. Pffttttttt.

Quick update.

If only I have the ability to transfer my thoughts to my blog, the number of posts would’ve prolly been doubled. No. Tripled. Probably more. The problem with me is I waited for too long. Way too long that all my ‘bright, lively’ ideas and thoughts in my head weaken out. And when the excitement is dead, there will be no more joy in writing. I guess that’s why twitter is so popular these days. Quick update in a short period of time. But that is something that am not interested in anyway.

Some of the things that I have thought of writing yet I didn’t:

Horrible drivers.
I curse a lot when driving. It doesn’t really matter whether am driving to work, or driving back home from work, nasty drivers can really get on my wick! Everytime I start cursing, I’ll think of blogging it, and expose their license plate number. I even thought of creating a website just for me to update my daily encounters with all these cocky drivers. But looking at the rate of my posting on my own personal blog.. nah.. forget about it.

Recipes, recipes and more recipes!!!

I’ve been baking a lot lately, mostly breads and cakes. Breads are awesome, I almost finished up a can of yeast in a matter of weeks! It all started off when I embarked myself in a quest of finding the best donut, or doughnut recipe. I made donuts on 3 weekends back to back, and my third attempt was so good that I actually wanted to mail that guy to thank him for sharing his recipe. But oh well.. I haven’t done that either.

Here’s the recipe courtesy of Secret Donut Recipe:

I have saved several pictures of my bread baking journey and yes I will definitely write about them. What fantastic about bread is that even if it turns out slightly off, most of the time it is still edible. Argh I’m hungry right now and I want cupcakes..

Update: At the time of posting, I’ve already baked about 50 cupcakes 😀

5 months with no updates . Need to say more?

Geeks who dick.
Okay I don’t know what’s that supposed to mean, but am referring to geek who is also a dickhead. Most geeks will feel insulted if they were asked whether they know how to do <insert-technical-task-here>. But some of them are seriously emotional emos that I feel like bitchslapping them left and right. Now I’m getting all emotional hmmpphhhh!!

me: Have you installed that already?
dick: I’ve installed that many times already..

You see, my question is simple, and the answer should be either ‘Yes’ or ‘No’. That kind of response is another way of saying.. “So you think I know jackshit???”

Should’ve just responded back, “Just checking, you noob”.

My new keyboard.

I’ve been using my trusty Samsung keyboard for years that some of the letters are just not visible anymore. I don’t really have any problem with that since I type with my eyes focus on the monitor, and not the keyboard. Thanks for my years of experience in IRC, ICQ and YM. I decided to switch to my another keyboard, A4tech after I noticed an annoying stickyness everytime I hit the ‘A’ key. But the stupid thing with the A4tech keyboard is its layout. The pipe ‘|’ key which is normally located on the top row, below the Fn keys row, is instead placed right next to the right ‘Shift’ key, below the ‘Enter’ key. I use ‘|’ a lot so this is actually a major turn off for me.

If you’re a nix user, you’d understand how important this pipe key is. Why did I buy the keyboard in the first place, you ask? Because 5 years ago I was using Windows rolleyes

You may say it is just a keyboard, but am hell fussy with it. The feel, the sound, the surface of the keys, are all important to me. I will normally close my eyes, lean a bit close towards the keyboard, and start typing. I started to feel embarrassed after doing it so many times at every single store. I was hooked with Razer Lycosa gaming keyboard, but it was so frustratingly expensive. The keyboard alone will cost me almost 300 bucks, but it is one helluva beauty. So beautiful it haunted me every night, calling my name, begging me to run my fingers all over it. Anyway I didn’t buy the keyboard due to its price. Unless am a gamer, I don’t think it’s a wise idea to buy it and waste all of its macros  and whatnot capibilities. Eventually I bought myself a Gigabyte GK-K6800 keyboard and it’s a brill, but unfortunately I can’t use any of the glorious multimedia keys since my FreeBSD failed to detect them using xev. Yet to try to configure it using the standard keyboard multimedia keycodes. It’s an awesome keyboard and the price is cheap.

My fluctuating weight at that time of the month.
I just realized few months back that about a week before my menses, I’ll feel constantly hungry. Almost everytime at that time of the month, I’ll gain myself 2 – 4 lbs. It’s not just plain hungry, it’s more like having multiple cravings that can drive me up the wall. Am like a mid-end desktop turning to mainframe, but instead of crunching numbers, I crunch food 😆

Lol. Kidding.

Unrelated, why the fuck is the break tag doesn’t work properly in wordpress?

Fitter happier.

Yea, there has been a lack of update. I was busy with WebLogic, and Devin.. oh well, he only writes material that meets a certain literary and relevancy standard and he is not that prolific. Lol. Guess you’ll never find him writing anything that will be tagged as rant 😛

Few things happened last week..

Weblogic completed:
Am done with the project last week, which is cool. Haven’t gone through the UAT session with the users yet, so until they say “All’s good”, guess I’ll have to keep my fingers crossed. Weeee!!!!

I lost my handphone:
Yes, my cheap handphone. I can’t believe someone would want to steal it. I bought the handphone for about 300 – 400 bucks, so am surprised that someone would be so keen to steal it. How much does it worth really? 2 small packets of weed? Am not bothered about the phone. Well alright, I am bothered, because it costs money. But what I care the most is the data inside the phone. My contacts, my messages, heck I even have a few audio clips of my cat purring recorded with that phone. Oh well. Fuck you, thief.

Medical checkups:
I had a couple of medical checkups performed last Tuesday and Thursday. Last Tuesday I got all wired up for the holter monitoring test. It was something like a 24 hours of ECG (electrocardiogram) to monitor the electrical activity of my heart. I couldn’t take showers during the procedure because it’ll damage the device. So yeah, am pretty happy with the fact that I don’t have to shower and not feeling guilty about it. Am just plain lazy sometimes.

And last Thursday, I got up very early in the morning and headed to the General Hospital to get my brain checked. It was a quick EEG (electroencephalography), prolly around 20 minutes where I had to blink my eyes numerous times, with bright light flickered directly on me for a few minutes and inhale/exhale profusely for 5 minutes which was tiring since am asthmatic. And oh my, I looked horrible with my hair glued on with all the wires. And I looked even worse after the guy pulled them out. I looked like a woman who is trying too hard to impress a guy by applying extra hair gel. You know the type of hair gel that will make your hair hard and stiff? Gah. I hate it.

I’ll be getting the results this April. I hope everything will be fine, since am always fine, and anyway I agreed to go through all of these medical procedures because my sister told me to. Nothing serious.

FreeBSD upgrade:
Yeah, finally! Upgraded to 7.1. I did it last Saturday, and I was thinking to update this blog on Sunday, but guess what, the update went fine until suddenly I failed to start the X server. Hmmm.. now that’s weird, because this was not the first time I did a FreeBSD upgrade, plus, this was just a minor version upgrade, so what could go wrong? Building world, kernel and installing them went perfectly well. I didn’t forget to run mergemaster, the machine booted up well. Spent a day changing the theme, and all of the sudden it failed (yeah, ironically it failed after I spent the whole day beautifying my desktop, why didn’t it fail sooner?). I realized that it failed just after I ran portupgrade to upgrade my Opera and Firefox. Probably the modules are not synced, am not sure.

I spent the next 48 hours running portupgrade numerous times, until I finally decided to rebuild perl, xorg and xfce4. But to my surprise it failed. I reinstalled my xfce4 and its gang one by one, so they’ll all run on the same version. Reboot the machine and voila, am back. Still, some of my installed packages are broken, so I had to fix them.

So they say, if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it. I could’ve just stick to FreeBSD 7.0 and save the 48 hours from the agonizing pain of troubleshooting my machine. But seriously, it was worth it. The performance is so much better, XFCE 4.6 is brilliant with more new features and yes fellas.. flash 9 works 🙂

He got engaged:
Yes, he finally got engaged. AmazingCongratulations.

What do WebLogic and someone-who-stole-my-chair-in-the-office have in common?

It’s easy to be miserable. Being happier is tougher- and cooler.

Think of how humbling it is to realize that the world wouldn’t be the same if one person did not exist.

So, if you’re planning to commit suicide, don’t. It’s just dumb.

What’s with od?

I’ve always thought of writing about my online handle, ‘od’. TIme flies and I’ve forgotten about it. But recently Devin asked what is the hidden meaning behind od, so here you go..

Well Devin, od is definitely not octal dump, you make me sound so geeky. lol.

od is overdose.

Stuff I od’ed:

Me daily cup of coffee 🙂

Caffein – I love coffee. Nuff said.

I am a junk food junkie.

I am a junk food junkie. This is an example of a balanced diet.

Junk food – This local company had a junk food wholesale last time, and yea I went mad looking at all those junk food! I’ve not tasted them before, but hey, it’s junk food, and it has MSG in it, so what could go wrong with the taste? MSG is awesome! Damn it, I wish it’s good for health.

Hey look, that's my online handle on the inhaler :p

My asthma inhaler – Specifically my Bricanyl Turbuhaler 0.5 mg/dose by Astra Zeneca. The picture on top is a Symbicort, mainly for prevention, and the latest formula claims it to be effective on attacks as well. Prolly is, but NOT as effective as Bricanyl Turb. And yes, this is how I got the sixtydoses from.

My baby Bricanyl.

My baby Bricanyl. I just noticed that the expiry date is last year. lol. Oh well, as long as it works.

I used to think that I od’ed on my medication. Even my friends thought the same too. I am asthmatic, and I depend on my awesome set of inhalers. The prevention inhaler, to prevent asthma attack, and another inhaler that is taken during attack. I have used so many inhalers before, I couldn’t even remember some of the names, but Bricanyl Turbuhaler(BT) is the best! Instant relief that it feels like magic. lol. I seriously dig this stuff.

I take my BT not only during attacks, but whenever I feel nervous or too excited:
– Before I sit for exams or presenting my projects to my lecturers.
– Before I go out for a date.
– Before I call someone I like.
– Before I watch any of my favorite shows and stuff I fancy on the telly.
– Oh well basically I’ll inhale everytime am hype. It calms me down.

My asthma is much, much better now, but just like a lipstick is a must in every girl’s handbag, an inhaler is a must in my bag. And the addiction is getting better as well, I finally managed to control it (not to mention that it has been a long time since I last took an exam, went out for a date and called someone I like lol).

Well there are other things that I od’ed on but I can’t think of anything much at the mo. Prolly because they’re less prominent than the listed three.

So that’s about it. If it’s not because of the inhaler on my computer table while I was sitting thinking of a new ID to use, prolly I would’ve came up with something else than sixtydoses/od. I have a number of online handles that I’ve been using since my college days, and the reason for me to create a new one is just to keep myself anonymous. Ah well, sort of.

Too much of beans is driving me nuts.

This is a story of Enterprise JavaBeans, or better known as EJB. I don’t like EJB. In fact, I don’t like Java. Ok, I do like Java, but I don’t understand it. Well, prolly it’s because I’m so stressed up for the upcoming exam, but seriously, there are too many terms, too many policies and all sorts of beans that need to be memorized, or preferably, understood.

I don’t think I am well prepared for the next week’s exam. But yea, I am sort of mentally prepared for the worst.

All these beans are.. urgh.. annoying. So this morning I’ve made myself a wallpaper in attempt to encourage (or force) myself to believe that EJB is full of fun and goodness! Well to all of you EJB lovers out there, I dedicate this wallpaper to you. Yes fellas, it’s free.

*rolleyes drum-rolls*
