Goodbye 2008, you’ll be missed.
I’ve always thought of writing about my online handle, ‘od’. TIme flies and I’ve forgotten about it. But recently Devin asked what is the hidden meaning behind od, so here you go..
Well Devin, od is definitely not octal dump, you make me sound so geeky. lol.
od is overdose.
Stuff I od’ed:
Caffein – I love coffee. Nuff said.
Junk food – This local company had a junk food wholesale last time, and yea I went mad looking at all those junk food! I’ve not tasted them before, but hey, it’s junk food, and it has MSG in it, so what could go wrong with the taste? MSG is awesome! Damn it, I wish it’s good for health.
My asthma inhaler – Specifically my Bricanyl Turbuhaler 0.5 mg/dose by Astra Zeneca. The picture on top is a Symbicort, mainly for prevention, and the latest formula claims it to be effective on attacks as well. Prolly is, but NOT as effective as Bricanyl Turb. And yes, this is how I got the sixtydoses from.
I used to think that I od’ed on my medication. Even my friends thought the same too. I am asthmatic, and I depend on my awesome set of inhalers. The prevention inhaler, to prevent asthma attack, and another inhaler that is taken during attack. I have used so many inhalers before, I couldn’t even remember some of the names, but Bricanyl Turbuhaler(BT) is the best! Instant relief that it feels like magic. lol. I seriously dig this stuff.
I take my BT not only during attacks, but whenever I feel nervous or too excited:
– Before I sit for exams or presenting my projects to my lecturers.
– Before I go out for a date.
– Before I call someone I like.
– Before I watch any of my favorite shows and stuff I fancy on the telly.
– Oh well basically I’ll inhale everytime am hype. It calms me down.
My asthma is much, much better now, but just like a lipstick is a must in every girl’s handbag, an inhaler is a must in my bag. And the addiction is getting better as well, I finally managed to control it (not to mention that it has been a long time since I last took an exam, went out for a date and called someone I like lol).
Well there are other things that I od’ed on but I can’t think of anything much at the mo. Prolly because they’re less prominent than the listed three.
So that’s about it. If it’s not because of the inhaler on my computer table while I was sitting thinking of a new ID to use, prolly I would’ve came up with something else than sixtydoses/od. I have a number of online handles that I’ve been using since my college days, and the reason for me to create a new one is just to keep myself anonymous. Ah well, sort of.
I wish.. lol.
Am very new to weblogic, so am pretty excited to try it on my FreeBSD at home. Well ok, I just managed to install it, but couldn’t get it run. Bleargh. The problem is with the LD_LIBRARY_PATH I think. There’s no native directory under <WL_HOME>/server, so it’ll complain about the missing path when you try to start the domain or node manager. Pfftttt. I’d love to know how to fix this 😦
But anyways, here’s how to install WebLogic 10g on FreeBSD 7. Just installing it, but it doesn’t work lol. I don’t know why I even bother writing this.
1 – FIrst of all, download the installer from the oracle website. Choose HP-UX as the operating system as that’ll provide you with a generic jar installer.
2 – While it’s downloading, install eclipse from the port.
cd /usr/ports/java/eclipse && make install clean
3 – Install eclipse WTP. Get it from here:
Place the zip file at /usr/local and unzip it. It’ll place all the extracted files in the right directory.
4 – After you’re done with eclipse, you’re ready to install weblogic. Am performing this as a non root user.
I use diablo java, so running java -jar server103_generic.jar alone will not work.
My java -version:
java version “1.5.0”
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build diablo-1.5.0-b01)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build diablo-1.5.0_07-b01, mixed mode)
So execute the installer using sun jdk directory to get it running:
/usr/local/jdk1.6.0/bin/java -Dos.name=unix -jar server103_generic.jar
You’ll have to specify the Dos unix name, else you’ll get the insufficient disk space error, which is very annoying when you actually have tons of free space. You may get lucky with this and the installation will end successfully. As for me, it stuck at 74% while creating the sample domain.
$ /usr/local/jdk1.6.0/bin/java -Dos.name=unix -jar server103_generic.jar
Exception in thread “Thread-14” java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space
The error was out of memory exception, so I decided to reinstall it. But first I have to uninstall it first since weblogic detected that it has already been installed at the target directory.I run the installer with the following command:
/usr/local/jdk1.6.0/bin/java -Xmx2G -Dos.name=unix -jar server103_generic.jar
Alright, now the installation is done, you might wanna try to start the sample domain.
Ahah! Now this is the part where I got unlucky.
It complains that the port is being used, when it’s not! Hmmmmphhhhh!

Stopping PointBase server…
PointBase server stopped.
Well actually there are other errors came out before that but am too lazy to look at it. Lolz.
Now if you try to create a domain, you’ll get the shared library path error:
./config.sh: Don’t know how to set the shared library path for FreeBSD.
Exception in thread “AWT-EventQueue-0” java.lang.NullPointerException
Same goes if you try to start a node manager.
Ah well.. think I’ll spare some other time playing around with this. Doing weblogic makes me miss websphere. Lol.
I’m happy and in a very good mood today 🙂 .Haven’t felt this happy for quite sometime. Life is good 😀
And so I was planning to post about my birthday last DC10 but I haven’t edited the pictures yet so am gonna post on something that I love doing besides dicking with my computer.
I love baking cakes. Just before my birthday was my niece’s birthday. I baked for her the Red Velvet cake aka Waldorf Astoria cake, which I like the most for it looks. The contrast between the vibrant red colour with the cream cheese frosting is just awesome. But I personally feel that the cream cheese frosting is too sweet for my liking though (I used 2 cups of icing sugar). I followed the recipe from Pinch My Salt website. The only thing that I modified is that I used 2 1/4 cups of all-purpose flour instead of 2 1/2 cups cake flour. This cake uses quite a lot of colouring.. I don’t think I’d put so much if I were to bake it just for the family, non-occasion stuff. The taste is ok, but the next time am gonna bake it I think I’ll just add in a little bit more of cocoa powder or chunks of bittersweet chocolate.
Another cake that I baked is this rich chocolate cake. It’s a flourless cake. Very rich, suitable for chocolate fanatics. The chocolate cake is supposed to be sliced into half, with a thick layer of whipped cream in the middle, but since the texture is soooo soft I couldn’t even placed the cake to a proper cake board, I didn’t dare to try slicing it.
So here’s the recipe, adapted from DianasDesserts:
Rich Chocolate cake
113gm butter, cut into pieces
300gm good quality bittersweet chocolate, coarsely chopped
6 large eggs, separated
1 cup caster sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
butter and flour, for greasing and flouring cake pan
1 ) Melt chocolate in a double boiler until it almost melted.
2 ) Add butter and stir until mixture is completely smooth. Keep warm.
3 ) Beat egg yolks using a food mixer until its light and lemon coloured.
4 ) Gradually beat in 3/4 cup of sugar until mixture becomes thick.
5 ) Blend in the chocolate mixture and vanilla.
6 ) In a separate mixing bowl, beat egg whites until it form soft peaks.
7 ) Gradually beat in the remaining 1/4 cup of sugar.
8 ) With a rubber spatula fold 1/3 of egg whites into the chocolate mixture.
9 ) Fold in the remainnig egg whites and blend it well.
First 15 minutes (pre-heated): 190 C
Next 15 minutes: 150 C
Last 30 minutes: 120 C
After an hour baking the cake I let the cake stand in the oven for about 30 minutes with the door left ajar. Then I took it out, cover the pan with a damp cloth and let it stand for about 10 minutes or so. Then because the cake is so soft like it’s going to melt, I just refrigerate it for several hours before glazing it with chocolate ganache.
For the chocolate ganache:
300gm good quality bittersweet chocolate, coarsely chopped
200ml double cream
A pinch of salt
Prolly not the proper way of preparing a ganache though:
1) Melt chocolate in double boiler until it melts completely.
2) Remove from heat and add in double cream. Whisk until it thickens.
It has almost a similar texture like a chocolate mud cake, something that I’ve been looking for for ages. I was planning to cover it with a chocolate mousse, but I forgot that I need to wait the melted chocolate to be slightly cold before whipping it with double cream, so I ended up with a chocolate ganache instead. Not a bad thing.. not a bad thing at all. Eating this chocolate cake alone is nice, eating it with a whipped cream, is artery choking. Lol. But it is seriously delicious. This recipe is definitely for keep 🙂
Happy birthday to meeeeee!
Happy birthday to meeeeeeeeee!!
Happy birthday to odddddddddddddddddddddd!
Happy birthday to me!
Happy 27th birthday to meself 🙂
This will be my last post.
Before I turn 27 tomorrow! Hehe 🙂
Well, being 26 is awesome, though nothing great happened to me.
I have stopped seeing him. Unless required.
I hope tomorrow will be a better day.
in my heart is where I long for you
in my smile I search for you
each time you turn and run away I cry inside
my silly way, too young to know any more
in my world the devil dances and dares
to leave my soul just anywhere
until I find peace in this world
I’ll sing a song everywhere I can
just too young to know any more
the wind covers me cold
the starry skies all around my eyes
far beneath the city moans
well worthy of the people there
oh, the psalms they love to hear
so let me sing a song for you
just to help your day along
let me sing a song for you
one I’ve known so very long
oh, please could you find the time..
